The HCDExchange Learning Agenda

The HCDExchange is focused on creating learning mechanisms and generating a robust evidence base on the application of human-centred design (HCD) in adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH). This effort is activated and sustained through our community of practice, comprised of people and organizations working at the intersection of HCD and ASRH.

Our learning agenda frames our approach to activating learning, curating and generating evidence, and making that evidence accessible to stakeholders in the HCD and ASRH field. The learning agenda has been developed in close consultation with the community of practice.

Based on community input, our learning agenda is guided by the overarching question, how might we create the right focus, mechanisms and culture for shared learning in this space?

To explore this question, we are focusing on two broad learning areas, as below:

1/Learning about HCD+ASRH in theory and practice

In this learning area, we’re tackling questions such as:

  • How does HCD work?
  • How is it evolving?
  • Why does HCD works in the context of ASRH?
  • What is the influence of HCD+ASRH?
2/Learning about how to do HCD+ASRH better

In this learning area, we’re tackling questions such as:

  • What are the practical actions related to collaboration, tools, communication, and building capacity in HCD+ASRH?
  • How might we communicate better about HCD+ASRH?

Each of these learning areas has been broken down into general domains of learning with a subset of curated learning questions that emerged from the data/consultation with the community of practice. You can find full information about these domains and questions in our draft learning agenda document.

How we plan to advance learning

Our learning agenda will be animated through a variety of activities, specifically the following:

  • Curating existing experience
  • Synthesizing existing evidence
  • Generating new learning and evidence
  • Modelling a new way of working where we build trust around learning and exchange of each other’s knowledge and experience
  • Exploring opportunities to build capacity for HCD+ASRH through experience and evidence generation
  • Community engagement around events, learning tools, community platform, design fellowships and small grants
  • Building a shared repository of resources
